Privacy Policy
Predictive Outdoors, LLC ("we," "us," "Predictive Outdoors") operates the Predictive Outdoors mobile application and predictiveoutdoors.com (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and what choices you have.
We try to write this in plain English. If anything is unclear, email privacy@predictiveoutdoors.com and we'll answer.
1. Information We Collect
Information you give us
- Account information: email address, password (stored hashed, never in plain text), nickname, optional full name, optional home state, species preferences, hunting methods.
- User content: sighting reports (species, count, behavior, time, optional photos), trail cam imports, messages in club chat, hunt plans, safety check-in notes.
- Property and stand data: coordinates and names of stands or properties you save. These are private to you and the clubs you choose to share them with.
- Emergency contacts: names and phone numbers of people you designate to be notified if a safety check-in is missed. We only use these to send the SMS you've configured.
Information we collect automatically
- Location: when you use map, weather, predictions, sighting reporting, or safety check-in features, we use your device's location. You control this through your operating system's location permission.
- Device and usage: device type, OS version, app version, crash reports, basic usage events (which screens you open, when).
- Network: IP address and basic network metadata logged by our backend provider (Supabase) for security and abuse prevention.
What we don't collect
- We don't access your contacts, photos, or microphone unless you explicitly attach a photo or set up an emergency contact.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't sell your data. Ever.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide the Service: predict hunting conditions, render maps, store and retrieve your sightings and stands, run the area sighting feed, deliver weather, manage safety check-ins.
- Safety alerts: if you set a check-in window and it expires without you confirming safe, we send the SMS you configured to your emergency contacts.
- Improve the product: aggregated, anonymized usage data to understand what works.
- Support and communication: respond to your questions; send service-related notices.
- Security and fraud prevention: detect abuse, enforce our Terms.
- Legal: comply with applicable laws, respond to lawful requests.
3. Location Data — Specifics
Because the Service is location-heavy, we want to be explicit about how location data flows.
- Stand coordinates never leave your account or your private club. They're not visible in the area feed.
- Sighting reports are fuzzed by approximately half a mile before they appear in the public "area feed." We further round to roughly a one-mile grid when serving them. Your exact location is never shared outside the club you chose to share with.
- Hunt session check-ins store your last known location while a session is active so we can pass it to your emergency contacts via SMS if you don't check in. You control session start and end.
- You can change a sighting's visibility (private / club / area / public) at any time.
4. Who We Share Information With
We use third-party providers to operate the Service. They process data on our behalf under contract:
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage, real-time messaging. Data centers in the US.
- OpenWeatherMap — weather data. We proxy weather requests through our backend, so OpenWeatherMap does not receive your account identity, only an approximate coordinate.
- Mapbox — map tiles and geocoding. Mapbox sees the map regions you view but not your account identity.
- Twilio — SMS delivery for safety alerts. Twilio receives the emergency contact phone numbers you configured and the message body. We do not share other personal information with Twilio.
- Apple and Google — app distribution and (if you subscribe) in-app purchase processing. We do not receive your payment card number.
- Crash and analytics providers — we use industry-standard tools (e.g., Sentry, PostHog) that may receive crash reports and usage events. These are configured to scrub personally identifying information where possible.
We share information with other users only when you actively choose to: posting a sighting to your club, joining a club, sending a chat message, designating an emergency contact.
We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to investigate fraud, abuse, or safety threats. We do not sell personal data to advertisers or data brokers.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
- Active accounts: we retain your data as long as your account is active.
- Account deletion: you can delete your account from the Profile screen in the app. When you do, your profile, sightings, check-ins, hunt sessions, club memberships, and emergency contacts are permanently removed from our active systems within 30 days. Backups containing this data are rotated out within 90 days.
- Aggregated anonymous data (counts, averages, regional patterns) may be retained indefinitely for research and product improvement. It cannot be tied back to you.
- Legal holds: we may retain limited data longer if required by law or legal process.
6. Your Rights and Choices
All users
- Access: request a copy of the data we hold about you by emailing privacy@predictiveoutdoors.com.
- Correction: update profile information from the Profile screen.
- Deletion: use the in-app Delete Account button, or email us.
- Visibility control: change sighting visibility per report.
- Location permission: revoke at any time from your device settings.
- Marketing email: we don't send marketing email without your opt-in, and every such message includes an unsubscribe link.

7. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users between 13 and the age of majority in their jurisdiction must have parental or guardian consent. If we learn we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it. Contact us if you believe this has happened.
8. Security

9. International Transfers
Our service providers are located primarily in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, which may have different data protection laws than your home country.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy. We'll change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, post an in-app notice or email you. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
